ATLANTA – January 24, 2019 – ProviDyn®, a provider of IT support, strategy and services for small and medium-sized businesses and nonprofits, hosted the first of 4 “Breakfast & Learns” planned for 2019 with educational content customized for nonprofits. “How to Conduct a Winning Capital Campaign” was delivered by Dennis Hanthorn, a trusted nonprofit advisor and executive recruiter/principal for m/Oppenheim Associates. Dennis shared insights on how to assess, design, engage and structure campaign efforts using the same framework he employed to help The Atlanta Opera raise $35 million over 8 years while serving as their General Director and CEO.
The complimentary “Breakfast and Learn” took place at the all new facility of the Agape Youth & Family Center, a ProviDyn client located on Marietta Boulevard in Atlanta’s vibrant West Side. Attendees included Executive Directors, Development Executives, CFO’s and Board Members from Sister Love, HomeAid Atlanta, Atlanta Humane Society, The Brandon Hall School, The Howard School and MARR Addiction Treatment Center.
Dennis was careful to mention that capital campaigns are not just for building projects like renovations, expansions and new construction. “They also apply to program or outreach needs, retiring debt and creating or growing an endowment.” He also garnered praise for giving everyone a great question to ask to help identify an organization’s main priorities – ‘If you had $250,000 right at this moment, where is the first place it would be used?’
ProviDyn CEO Hamish Davidson was highly energized by the engagement and noted, “We are thankful for our sponsors Agape Youth & Family Center and trusted partner Green Cloud who made all of this possible. I am also glad we can bring something else to the nonprofit community besides a technical seminar. Other than mentioning we were the sponsor, we avoided any mention of bits, bytes, speeds and feeds.”
“Dennis did a fantastic job of distilling 5 hours of content into a tight 60-minute presentation that kept everyone’s attention and stimulated a dynamic Q&E at the end,” remarked ProviDyn Solution Advisor Jed Fearon. He continued, “I am glad he will be involved with us throughout the year, and I’m really looking forward to the next event in late April.”
